Logos Education Centre is a specialist education service and provides a range of professional educational products and services. We are a relatively new educational tutoring service that offers general tutoring for school age students from Years 1 to 12 in English, Reading, Mathematics and Science -- General, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
We also offer ESL for students and adults who are wishing to study in Australia or are seeking a job requiring better English than what they have. We also provide educational support for homeschoolers who are scattered throughout Brisbane and indeed wider. All our teachers are Queensland registered teachers and most of them are teaching in schools that are close by.
Logos Education Services are currently providing educational services for a new school project in China that is requiring Queensland accreditation of Courses at Senior Secondary level of education and staffing, along with the facilitation of student access of Chinese students to Australian educational institutions.
Periodically Logos Education Services offers LEM - ESL Phonics Seminars under the auspices of Greg O'Keefe who is a highly experienced teacher and LEM Phonics specialist trainer/presenter and who also is teaching in a Queensland school.
LEM Phonics and its ESL development is an intensive phonics program that teaches the student the skills of communication - listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling which are basically to experiencing satisfaction and well-being in life. Using the phonograms and rules, the student is able to make sense of the English language, which is generally considered inconsistent.
LEM Phonics teaches writing, reading and spelling simultaneously. As many of the five senses as possible are used to consolidate what is being learnt. Whether he learns more effectively through visual perception or auditory perception, the student is given a wide range of opportunities to retain what has been learned.
The written symbol of an English word has no pictorial resemblance to the meaning of the word. For example, the written word 'hand' does not looking anything like a hand - it is really only a set of symbols representing the sound of that word. Because we use an alphabetic sound/symbol code to represent words, the most effective way to learn to read and write must be through the deciphering of this code - ie, through phonics.
Although this intensive phonics method was first developed for literacy foundations in the early primary school years, it has now been developed for ESL usage with tremendous success. The LEM - ESL version has been published in China and is now widely used in nine provinces in China. If there is any reason why it has not spread quicker in its use, its because there is an extensive training program required for teachers to use it effectively and you can imagine the countless hours LEM Phonics Specialist Teacher/Trainers (people such as Greg O'Keefe) need to put in to establish a large number of teachers that can effectively use the method. To become a LEM Phonics specialist trainer it is required that a teacher has taught the intensive phonics method for at least two years full-time and have completed an advanced trainers course. We have not got a lot of trainers when the standards are set at this uncompromisingly high level.
